The Solar America Board for Codes and Standards (Solar ABCs) meets annually to identify the current high priority issues facing photovoltaic (PV) industry. PV module tolerance is an area identified as a high priority and is being acted on by the Solar ABCs through planned collaborative study efforts, research panels, and white papers. The goal is for all of the planned efforts to position the PV industry with codes and standards that foster accelerated market adoption.
Establishing market-oriented PV module tolerance power ratings is critical to the cost effectiveness and long-term market acceptance for large-scale PV power installations. The current PV module tolerance power rating measurement uncertainty is now smaller than ever (for example,+/- 3% for c-Si), and represents great improvement. Furthermore, the reproducibility error between test labs is now also smaller (for example, +/- 3% for c-Si). A more detailed Solar ABCs recommended policy is currently being developed to address related issues such as stabilization, measurement uncertainty, warrantees and other module tolerance issues.
