IAPMO Codes and Standards

The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) works with government and industry to implement comprehensive plumbing and mechanical systems around the world. There are many IAPMO codes and standards that pertain to photovoltaic installations, including:
Uniform Solar Energy Code
IAPMO IGC 086-2002 - PASSIVE SOLAR WATER HEATERS
IAPMO IGC 190-2003 - AIR BASE SOLAR THERMAL COLLECTOR

Learn about the IAPMO Code and Standards Development Process

IAPMO utilizes an open consensus process in the development of the Uniform Solar Energy Code® and their standards. The IAPMO's codes and standards development process is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The process invites the participation of the IAPMO members and the general public. Anyone may participate by attending committee meetings, and proposing changes to the Uniform Solar Energy Code. The Uniform Solar Energy Code is developed under a three-year cycle and follows five major steps:

  1. Call for Proposals.
  2. Report on Proposals.
  3. Call for Comments.
  4. Report on Comments.
  5. Uniform Solar Energy Code issuance.
