ASTM International

ASTM International, formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), develops and delivers international standards. ASTM has a portfolio of over 12,000 international standards aimed to improve product quality, enhance safety, facilitate market access and trade, and build consumer confidence. The ASTM technical committee dedicated to PV standard development is the E44.09 Photovoltaic Electric Power Conversion. The ASTM standards include standards that pertain to PV technology:

Learn about the ASTM Standards Development Process

ASTM's standards development process is driven by the contributions of its members, which are comprised of the world's top technical experts and business professionals representing 135 countries. Participating ASTM members are invited to join ASTM technical committees to develop ASTM standards. There are over 130 ASTM technical committees covering diverse industry areas ranging from metals to the environment. The ASTM standards development is an open and transparent process. ASTM members deliver the test methods, specifications, guides, and practices that support industries and governments worldwide.

ASTM Certification and Enforcement

The ASTM Product Certification Program is a voluntary program and provides product certification at the direction of ASTM, by a third-party laboratory to determine the product's ability to conform to one or more standards. Any corporate entity, domestic or international, that is a manufacturer, distributor, or private brand marketer of a product that falls within the scope of an ASTM certification program is eligible to have its product(s) apply for ASTM certification.
